I received the following question as part of a recent support inquiry:

Do we need to manually create collections and keywords ourselves, or can they be suggested via an embedded AI tool?

Here is my reply:

Yes, you need to create Collections and Keywords yourself. And yes, the AI tools can suggest potential themes (Collections) and codes (Keywords) for you during that creation process. Specifically, the AI tools can create notes with their analyses of themes and codes in AI Results, but cannot actually create Collection or Keyword items within Transana’s interface.

Please read the Using AI in Transana article at https://www.transana.com/support/using-ai/, especially the final section, carefully to understand what AI can and cannot do.

An AI model may identify themes and codes in your data. However, it is unlikely to know enough about your specific research interests to necessarily identify all of the themes and codes in your data that you would be able to manually. AI is a sometimes helpful tool, but it is not fully reliable, thorough, and trustworthy. You will want to analyze your data thoroughly to check the accuracy of what AI says, and also to discover what AI misses.
