The Scope of Reports

The way you request a report in Transana makes a huge difference. It determines the scope of the report.

You trigger reports in Transana by right-clicking (ctrl-clicking on macOS) items in the Database Tree in the Data Window.

Libraries

Right-click (ctrl-click on macOS) a Library for reports about multiple sources stored in that Library.

  • The text Library Report lists source items stored in the Library.
  • The Library Word Frequency Report creates a Word Frequency Report based on all items contained within the Library.
  • The graphical Library Keyword Sequence Map, the Library Keyword Bar Graph, and the Library Keyword Percentage Graph summarize the coding of multiple Episodes within the Library.
  • The Analytic Data Export function exports coding information from all source items within a Library, making them available for mixed-methods analysis.

Documents

Right-click (ctrl-click on macOS) a Document for reports about the contents and analysis of that Document.

  • The text Document Report lists all quotes created from the Document.
  • The Document Word Frequency Report creates a Word Frequency Report based on the text from the Document.
  • The graphical Document Keyword Map summarize the coding from the Document in graphical form.
  • The Analytic Data Export function exports coding information from all Quotes from the Document, making them available for mixed-methods analysis.

PDF Documents

Right-click (ctrl-click on macOS) a PDF Document for reports about the contents and analysis of that PDF.

  • The text Document Report lists all PDF Quotes and PDF Snapshots created from the PDF Document.
  • The Document Word Frequency Report creates a Word Frequency Report based on the text from all PDF Quotes from the PDF Document.

Episodes

Right-click (ctrl-click on macOS) an Episode for reports about the contents and analysis of that Episode and its Transcripts.

  • The text Episode Report lists all clips created from the Episode and all Snapshots associated with the Episode.
  • The Episode Word Frequency Report creates a Word Frequency Report based on the text from all Transcripts associated with the Episode.
  • The graphical Episode Keyword Map summarize the coding (Clips and Snapshots) associated with the Episode in graphical form.
  • The Analytic Data Export function exports coding information from all clips from the Episode, making them available for mixed-methods analysis.

Transcripts

Right-click (ctrl-click on macOS) a Transcript for reports about the contents of that Transcript.

  • The Transcript Word Frequency Report creates a Word Frequency Report based on the text from from the selected Transcript.

Collections

Right-click (ctrl-click on macOS) an Collection for reports about the contents of that Collection.

  • The text Collection Report lists all Quotes, Clips, PDF Quotes, PDF Snapshots, and Snapshots placed in the Collection and, optionally, its nested Collections.
  • The Collection Word Frequency Report creates a Word Frequency Report based on the text from all Quotes, Clip Transcripts, and PDF Quotes placed in the Collection.
  • The graphical Collection Keyword Map summarize the coding for all Clips and Snapshots placed in the Collection in graphical form.
  • The Analytic Data Export function exports coding information from all Quotes and Clips placed in the Collection, making them available for mixed-methods analysis.
