TRANSANA’S MAIN SCREEN
Transana’s Main Screen
When you start Transana, you will see the Transana main interface, made up of a menu bar and four separate windows which can be moved and sized independently of one another: the data window, the document window, the media window, and the visualization window. The snapshot window and report windows are also available when needed.
Having the four main windows work independently of one another allows you to resize them as needed for your project, or to spread them out among multiple monitors.
This ScreenCast video provides an overview of Transana’s Main Screen.
Transana’s Main Screen
The Menu Bar
At the top of your screen, you will see either the Transana Menu Bar in Windows or the MacOS Menu Bar containing the Transana menu items. The Menu Bar provides the basic program controls for Transana, and it serves the essential function of bringing the four independent windows back together when part of the screen is obscured by other programs. Just click Window > Bring Main Windows to Front when you need to see them all at the same time.
Visualization Window
The visualization window displays visual representations of the data loaded in the Transana interface. This can be in the form of a waveform diagram representing the audio track of media data, or of a bar chart showing coding that has been applied to text and media files during the analytic process, or as in this graphic, both.
Media Window
The media window is where you control playback and positioning when you are working with audio and video files, and where video is displayed. When working with audio files, this window displays only the playback controller bar.
Document Window
The document window is where you display and edit the transcripts of media files, and display imported text files.
The Document Toolbar at the top of the Document Window has controls for creating, editing, time-coding and saving documents.
Data Window
The data window is where you add, organize, and manipulate your data in Transana. You select which documents, audio/video files and still images you want to work with in the other windows.
Click in the Data Window to create new libraries, create video clips or text quotes, assign keywords, and generate reports.
Snapshot Window
The Snapshot Window (not shown here) displays still images and provides tools for manipulating and coding these images during the analytic process.
PDF Window
The PDF Window displays PDF Documents. It provides tools for coding and displaying text selections (PDF Quotes) and image selections (PDF Snapshots)
Report Windows
Transana’s reports are presented in individual windows. This allows them to display data and allow analytic manipulation in ways that are appropriate for each report type.
