Setting up your Computer - Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
The first step in getting set up to work on Transana's source code on the Mac is to make sure you have the right version of OS X.
Transana works on OS X 10.3 (Panther) on a PowerPC Mac.
If you are using OS X 10.3, please see the Mac OS X 10.3 PPC setup instructions.
Transana should also work on OS X 10.4 (Tiger) on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. (I have only tested this on an Intel Mac.) These instructions describe setting up a Mac OS X 10.4 computer for working with Transana's source code.
I have not tried running Transana from source code on OS X 10.5 (Leopard). However, it should work. The instructions should be similar to the 10.4 instructions.
Some Python modules and components necessary for running the Transana source code require that you compile them on the Mac. This means you need to have a functioning C compiler. If you don't have gcc (a c compiler) installed on your system, you should install an appropriate version of the X-Code Tools. It is available for download from Apple.
The next step is to set up Python.
