OS X 10.3 (Panther)

The first step in getting set up to work on Transana's source code on the Mac is to make sure you have the right version of OS X.

Transana does not run on OS X 10.2 (Jaguar).

Transana works on OS X 10.3 (Panther) on a PowerPC Mac in both single-user and multi-user configurations. These instructions describe setting up a Mac OS X 10.3 computer for working with Transana's source code.

Transana also works on OS X 10.4 (Tiger) on both PowerPC and Intel Macs in the multi-user configuration. We hope to get it working with the single-user configuration soon. If you are using OS X 10.4, please see the Mac OS X 10.4 Universal setup instructions.

Some Python modules and components necessary for running the Transana source code require that you compile them on the Mac. This means you need to have a functioning C compiler. If you don't have gcc (a c compiler) installed on your system, you should install an appropriate version of the X-Code Tools. We've heard it ships with OS X 10.3 on a supplemental CD, and it is available for download from Apple.
